POLO HISTORY: ORIGIN OF THIS AMAZING SPORT
The history of origin of polo practice has not been defined yet. It is thought that this sport was originated in Persia by the 6th century bC. The units of cavalry used to trained good riders playing polo.
Its name, with which it was known later, comes from the word «pulu» which means «ball» in tibetan.
Many historians believe that the history of polo goes back to the iranian tribes that existed before of the kingdom of Dario I The Big (521-485 bC) and the foundation of the Second Irani Empire. Actually, persian art and literature are the main records of the practice of polo in ancient times.
In some countries like China, polo became a royal hobbie during lots of centuries. This might have ocurred due to the presence of irani´s nobility on the territory, after the invasion of their empire by the arabs.
Polo arrived at Occident through Manipur, a northeastern state of India. According to historical records, a representative of british governemnt (that lived in Manipur during XIX century) wrote a note about the sport and contributed to its later difusion.
